Introduction to Music Technology for Creative Artists (2 credits) at Hamline University

A partnership with Walker West Music Academy Summer 2024

Supercharge your artistic voice this summer – while potentially earning 2 university course credits – with hands-on Music Production instruction offered as part of the partnership between Walker West Music Academy and Hamline University.

This 1 week summer workshop intensive dives into the basic principles and techniques of audio mixing: learn about track session prep, EQ types and uses, reverb types, sonic qualities, compression, in-the-box vs console mixing (digital vs analog), mix buss, and delivery formats (mastering, spotify, iTunes).Whether you are a songwriter, a poet, instrumentalist, podcaster, music teacher, or simply looking to further develop your understanding of music technology, this opportunity is for you!

Age requirements: students entering 10th grade and older. No prerequisite knowledge required.

When

July 8-12, 2024, weeks (M-F), 9am-3pm. 6-hour daily sessions, to include 5 hours of instruction plus 1 hour for lunch (lunch provided).

Where

Classes will meet in-person at Hamline University, in the basement of Bush Memorial Library (BML 18)

About Jeff Bailey

Jeff Bailey is Director of the Certificate in Music Production Program at Hamline University. His extensive and varied educational, clinician, gigging, touring, and recording background informs his approach to developing a program that aims to challenge young music makers to perform, explore, and invest in the tools of tomorrow.

About Jason McGlone

Jason McGlone is associate instructor of the Certificate in Music Production Program at Hamline University, specializing in audio mixing. His wide-ranging  portfolio of experience includes a major residency with the Minnesota Orchestra where he served as audio mixing engineer. His musical range is beyond category, mixing for groups as varied as Indie Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop, and New Orleans Brass Ensembles
