COMING FALL 2026!

Adult Group Piano

At Walker West, we believe music is a birthright. Our Adult Group Piano Class is designed for working professionals who have always nursed the idea of playing the piano but haven’t yet taken the leap. This is a space where you can finally engage with your musical curiosity, develop a new skill, and join a community of like-minded adults in a setting that is supportive, professional, and accessible.

The Basics

Who: Working professionals and adults (Ages 18+).

When: Saturdays, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM.

Kickoff: Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Location: 650 Marshall Ave, St. Paul.

The Commitment: This is a full-year program. We move together as a cohort, so new students are not added mid-year to ensure the group maintains a steady, collective pace.

The Training

We focus on the essential skills that turn a lifelong interest into actual musical ability:

  • Technical Literacy: You will learn to read music and understand the “why” behind the notes. We strip away the mystery of music theory so you can sit down at a keyboard and play with confidence.

  • Ear Training: We help you develop the ability to recognize melodies and rhythms by ear—a vital skill that connects you deeper to the music you listen to every day.

  • The Practice Habit: As a professional, your time is valuable. We don’t just tell you to practice; we model efficient practice techniques that fit into a busy schedule, ensuring you see maximum progress with the time you have.

  • Performance: Students have the opportunity to participate in 1–2 informal recitals per year. It is a low-pressure way to share your progress and celebrate your new skills with the community.
Why Start Now?
  • Reclaim Your Creative Agency: Most of your week is spent meeting deadlines and managing responsibilities. This hour is yours. It’s a dedicated space to step out of “work mode” and into a creative practice that belongs entirely to you.

  • The Ultimate Cognitive Reset: Learning piano is one of the few activities that engages nearly every part of the brain simultaneously. It’s a powerful way to sharpen focus, improve memory, and provide a meaningful mental break from the digital grind.

  • Move From “Someday” to Today: We all have that one skill we’ve promised ourselves we’d learn “when things slow down.” Things rarely slow down. This class provides the structure, the community, and the professional guidance to finally make good on that promise to yourself.

  • Stress Recovery through Mastery: There is a unique satisfaction in the tangible progress of music. Mastering a new chord or a difficult passage provides a sense of accomplishment that clears the mind and recharges your professional battery for the week ahead.
FAQs

Do I need a piano at home? No. Walker West provides keyboards for use during class. For home practice, a standard electronic keyboard is perfectly fine. We recommend waiting to invest in a full piano until you’ve established your routine.

What if I’ve never read a note of music? That is exactly who this class is for. We start from the absolute basics and build your literacy step-by-step alongside your peers.

What is the attendance policy? We understand that professional life can be unpredictable, but consistency is the key to progress. To keep the group on track for our showcases, we ask that students miss no more than three sessions per semester.

Don’t let the music stop.

Due to rising economic pressures and the disruption caused by immigration enforcement activity in the Twin Cities, some of our families are facing a financial gap that threatens their music education this semester.
