Summer Music Camps

“Grow Through Music” Summer Camp

Monday July 12 – Friday July 30 | 8am – 12pm daily
(Ages 5 – 12)
In-Person with safety protocols in place

Our “Grow Through Music” camp offers a fun introduction to a variety of instruments for beginning students, and a way to reconnect with friends and instructors for returning students. Campers will learn in a supportive small group environment with a chance to perform during our end of camp presentation.

  • Classes include: Piano, Wind Instrument, African Drumming, Music Production and Songwriting
  • Teaching Artists: Jack Breen, William Duncan, Taylor Hamilton, Ghana Mbaye, McKinley West

Summer Jazz Intensive

Monday August 2 – Friday August 6 | 10am – 4pm daily
(Ages 13 – 18)
In-Person with safety protocols in place

The Summer Jazz Intensive program is a one week comprehensive experience for beginner to advanced youth musicians to hone their performing skills, take applied classes and interact with world-class jazz faculty at Walker|West.

  • Classes include: Ensemble, Private / Group Instrumental Lessons, Theory, Improvisation, Master Classes
  • Teaching Artists: Ernest Bisong, Jack Breen, Kavyesh Kaviraj, Charlie Lincoln, Solomon Parham, Kevin Washington

Summer Jazz Violin Workshop

Monday August 9 – Wednesday August 11
(For intermediate violin students)
In-Person with safety protocols in place

This 3 day workshop is for violin (only) students looking to branch out from traditional classical violin or who desires to take their improvisation to the next level.

Prerequisites:

  • Instrument (Violin, bow, and other necessary accessories)
  • Scales; C Major, G Major, D Major, A Major, F Major, Bb Major through 2 octaves and A Minor, E Minor, B Minor, D Minor, and G Minor through 1 octave
  • Suzuki Books IV & V

Topics covered include: Ear Training/Critical Listening to identify elements in a performance, Scales within a scale (Modes); I Don’t Play Lousy Music Any Longer, Harmony, harmonic function and chord qualities, and more!
