Age Is Just Another Number at Walker|West

When we say our community music school is open to anyone who wants to learn, we mean exactly that. The styles of music that we love to teach know no age bias. With discounts for individual lessons (up to 50% for 55+), our incredible Amazing Grace Chorus, and other group/ensembles –we’re ready for you!

Everyone has a favorite artist who has gotten better over many decades, and some of the greatest working groups in history have featured teens playing alongside musicians in their 60s, 70s and beyond!

You don’t have to settle for an adult music appreciation class or worry about a teacher telling you there’s only so much you can learn “at your age.” Let’s play! Come meet one of our teaching artists and tell us about your passion for music, whether that involves learning guitar, playing drums, or getting back into your horn or any of dozens of other instruments.

Adult Group Voice Class

Sing in a group setting, and learn from professional vocal and choral instructors. Participants will be guided through seven 45 minute sessions each Saturday in vocal basics, choral technique, part singing, operating in harmonies, and “Circlesongs”.

When: Saturdays at 3 PM | October 28 – December 16, 2023

Where: 650 Marshall Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55104

Who: Ages 18+, all skill levels

Sarah Greer and Carl Clomon (Guest Instructors)
William Duncan, Liam Vance, and Kevin Jackson (Voice Department Faculty)

Carl Clomon’s sessions are designed to enhance the skills of aspiring and experienced gospel style lead singers and solo artists. Participants will develop skills intended to make them successful singers of any genre of music. In this space, singers can share common issues in a forum that is nurturing and supportive. At the end of the course, participants will have a better understanding of their voice and singing leads and solos.

Circlesongs were born out of Bobby McFerrin’s work with his 12-member a cappella ensemble Voicestra.

If you want to learn more about your voice and build trust in your vocal abilities, if you want tools and practice tinkering with melodies and inventing harmonies, or if just the thought of spending an hour in a roomful of singers makes you giddy, then this is the workshop for you.

We start with the basics and we learn and explore together. You just need to bring your voice, a little bit of courage and a willingness to join in. If this sounds like the right fit, we are waiting to work with you.

Cost: $30 per class, $210.00 for full 7 weeks
