Accessibility & Affordability

Accessible, Affordable Music Education Is Central to Our Mission

At Walker West Music Academy on Selby Avenue, our goal is to teach any student who wishes to learn music. We welcome many students from Summit-University neighborhood schools such as Maxfield, Obama, Jackson, Ramsey and Central High. Aspiring musicians of all ages also come to us from other urban and suburban Minneapolis-St. Paul communities. We learn and grow together in a diverse, respectful environment.

Welcoming Students of All Ages, Cultures and Ability Levels

The opportunity to learn from gifted, passionate teaching artists is a major part of our music school’s appeal. So is the chance to learn music by hearing, playing and living it in a dynamic environment. Together, we do all we can to share this experience as widely as possible with people of all cultures and backgrounds during out-of-school time and in-summer programs and through community outreach.

“We create a family structure so that everybody has something to offer. Everybody can be their best here. There are no failures.”

– Reverend Carl Walker

Our Robust Scholarship Program Helps Clear Financial Barriers

We know that finding a source for affordable music lessons is a challenge for many families. Thanks to generous community support and our school’s financial discipline, we have been able to award more than $200,000 in scholarships since 2003.

Accessible music education for you and your children is within reach! It can all start simply by talking with one of our friendly staff members about your interests and vision. We will be glad to provide a free starter lesson and information about what we can do to make it happen – so contact us today.
